A Vision That Is Diverse, Vibrant, Equitable & Livable.

On November 7th join us in standing for the values that hold our community together.

Incentivizing a Thriving, Inclusive Business Environment Our campaign stands for equity now—and the greatest place where that commitment to equity can be demonstrated is inside our downtown business district. We advocate the development of strategies that incentivize diversity and inclusion in the workplace and that will bring benefit to our citizens. We see the need to invest in and attract/encourage the creation of more jobs inside the downtown district by engaging both local and national entities to come downtown and join our community. As a social responsibility, we need to create and promote greater avenues towards economic development via business ownership for our most disenfranchised communities. Lastly, we need to create a more beautiful, exciting and safe downtown that will realize our goals. click image for more platform info

Community Safety and Police Accountability Minneapolis deserves law enforcement that is committed to the protection and service of all. Rooting out systemic racism and bigotry is key to helping the force reconnect to the community and re-earn trust. We advocate funding a non militarized, more visible and community engaged police force and find creative ways to market this force—renewed in its commitment to protect and serve with compassion. We need to match a no tolerance policy for crime with a no tolerance policy for police brutality, abuse of power and lack of accountability.  click image for more platform info

Giving Children a Great Public School Education As a child and grandchild of educators, Teqen understands the importance of a public school education and of those who make that education possible. Arming our next generations with the tools to succeed in an ever more competitive world is paramount. Working parents that receive the time off to take an active role, safe affordable housing and good nutrition are all key factors. Minnesota has always valued education, the arts and sciences, physical activities and exposing children to the out doors—we must assure that a public school education is equitable, attainable and safe for all. Let's not turn our back on our values—let's make sure that we are engaging and compensating the best qualified education professionals to keep our public school legacy alive. click image for more platform info

New Policy For Renters and Landlords The time has come to discuss rent stabilization and control policies and wholeheartedly advocate for them at the legislative level. We need to better hold landlords and management companies accountable and assure that our low income, working class, immigrant and elderly are afforded dignified, affordable, pest free rental housing and protections. The term classic charm has not aged well alongside the term market rate. As the cost of living increases and pay stagnates it is the only option to hold our community together. Similar to other rapidly gentrifying cities like San Francisco and New York—these policies are part of being a major city. click image for more platform info

Committed Environmental Advocacy Our Grand Rounds and Chain of Lakes are the jewel in the crown of Minneapolis and the envy of the nation. We must protect what makes us special at all costs. We also need to ensure that our wildlife and wild spaces continue to thrive while coming to the aid of our dwindling bee populations. Where green and sustainable energy in concerned, it is time to meet our energy goals sooner rather than later by asking more of the energy sector, developers and the city. We need to assist consumers in learning about affordable modes of sustainable energy and help them attain these environmentally sound and ultimately cost efficient options. We must expand urban composting and recycling and create partnerships that share our vision of a clean, green vibrant city. click image for more platform info

Housing and Equitable Development/Land Use The need for affordable housing in this city is like the need for clean air and water—it is a naturally occurring necessity. We know that Minneapolis is loosing thousands of units of affordable housing each year while having a shortfall of thousands more. This means we are in the midst of a growing crisis. We need a considerate, conscious approach to development and city planning—growing our city while assuring that all our residents and our existing communities get the housing infrastructure we so desperately need. The time for action is now. We can no longer kick the can down the dusty road.  click image for more platform info

Transit Advocacy and Biking Initiatives Jobs + housing + transit = a thriving city—add biking and walking and that city becomes vibrant and communal. We need to make sure everyone has a share of our streets and walkways. A closer partnership with the Metropolitan council is key as it relates to Minneapolis' expanding transit needs. We need strong advocates in front of the council advocating on behalf of all Minneapolitans in order to ensure that transit actually serves those who need it most and on a schedule that applies to real life.  Bikers and walkers have always been a part of the inner city culture of Minneapolis. We need to make bikes and pedestrians a more symbiotic presence on our streets while educating all parties on safety and shared road policy. Finally, whereas the SWLRT project seems to be steaming ahead, we will make sure that the communities effected are an important part of the developmental process. click image for more platform info

Our Urban Lifestyle and Inner City Culture We deserve a special city that is diverse, vibrant, artistic and happening. Initiatives like urban agriculture, expanded food trucks/carts, on the street book fairs and cultural and music festivals all inspire a connected city that engages her citizens. Creating more open green spaces where we draw the community together will create an intersectional close knit community centered on greater understanding and common values. Developing a marketing campaign about the city for the city will celebrate the rich diversity, cultural heritage and natural beauty of our city while educating our citizens on their rights, safety, services and how to coexist with respect and decency. click image for more platform info

Creating A City That Thrives.

The Commitment

A dedication to the people.

For Teqen, the ultimate role of a city council person is to help citizens achieve a happier more productive life. This does not mean give-always or under the table deals—rather, it means making government and the institutions of community service accessible. It is the job of an actively engaged council member to let people know what rights, services and opportunities are there for them and then allow education and inclusion to flourish. This is the pathway to balanced growth.
